For Staff
Swanson staff can leverage a wide range of technology tools and resources suited to their needs.
RESOURCES AND SERVICES
The Swanson School offers structured, secure data storage services to staff and faculty. The Swanson School leverages the University CSSD virtualized storage platform for its secure storage offerings. With 24/7/365 monitoring and daily backups, it is the recommended option for all data storage. Contact your Department Technology Lead for more information or contact our Server & Storage Lead, Jeremy Dennis or call 412.624.2299.
All Swanson departments/units/institutes/centers have access to the Pitt's Microsoft SharePoint presences. Delivering document storage, version control, calendaring, announcements, discussion forums and other features, SharePoint is a great tool for departments, committees, research laboratories, and research project collaboration or proposal preparation and management. To learn more, contact your Department Technology Lead or please visit CSSD’s My SharePoint Sites.
Technology changes continue to impact the resources our Swanson School staff use daily. To ensure staff have ready resources to refine their knowledge of existing software/technology, or to learn about new packages, the Swanson School supports and encourages use of the Lynda technology training resources through CSSD, along with technology training offered through the Office of Human Resources' Faculty & Staff Development Program. Both resources offer a deep set of self-paced instructional content on packages common to the University of Pittsburgh environment. For more information and guidance, please contact your Department Technology Lead.
University computing accounts for new students, faculty and staff are automatically created via the Office of Admissions and Office of Human Resources. Sponsored accounts are temporary in nature and require annual recertification. These accounts can be created on an as-needed basis for visiting researchers, collaborators or other individuals requiring access to select University of Pittsburgh electronic resources. Scrutiny is applied to all sponsored account requests and role based needs are examined in all cases. For more information, contact your Department Technology Lead, or the SSoE Technology Group Accounts Management Lead Jeremy Dennis (jtd36@pitt.edu) 412-624-2299.
The Swanson School uses FourWinds ® digital signage software to display announcements across Benedum Hall, the MCSI Annex, Gardner Steel Conference Center, and the Center for Bioengineering. For Departments, the Marketing & Communications team can create "channels" enabling departments/units/institutes/centers to post and manage content on their floor(s) targeted to their students and visitors. FourWinds ® is the University of Pittsburgh enterprise digital signage package, enabling Swanson departments/units/institutes/centers to promote events, accomplishments, and other important information throughout Engineering and all across campus.
Please contact Paul Kovach for more information.
Departments/units/institutes/centers' staff have access to a number of conferencing facilities across Benedum Hall. Rooms are outfitted with same technology capabilities. Some rooms are additionally equipped to handle video teleconferencing. For more information or to reserve a room, visit the Conference Rooms directory .
