A shoe with lights

We’re trying to prevent slip-and-fall injuries by understanding shoe-floor friction.

We’ve got an exciting project to study how the surface roughness of flooring can be modified to improve traction during walking and reduce slip-and-fall accidents. If you or a loved one have ever been injured in a fall, you know what an important topic this is to work on.

The work is in collaboration with Prof. Kurt Beschorner (Pitt Bioengineering), and the Tile Council of North America (TCNA) and funded by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).
