:: Dr. Alaine M. Allen Alaine M. Allen is the Director of the Pre-College and Undergraduate Diversity Programs, which includes both INVESTING NOW and Pitt EXCEL. Her responsibilities include oversight of both programs, developing relationships with professionals from the local educational and non-profit communities, maintaining relationships with administrators, faculty and other departments within the University of Pittsburgh, managing summer enrichment sessions, and interacting with student organizations within the Swanson School of Engineering. Ms. Allen has worked at the University since 1994. She was formerly the assistant director of the INVESTING NOW program, a physics teacher for the Woodland Hills School District, and a graduate research assistant for QUASAR - a math education reform project at the University of Pittsburgh Learning Research and Development Center.
Ms. Allen has a Bachelor of Science degree in physics/secondary education from Lincoln University and a Master of Education degree in policy, planning, and evaluation from the University of Pittsburgh. She has also completed graduate work in the Higher Education Management Program of the University of Pittsburgh School of Education. Her research interest involves identifying the factors that enable ethnically underrepresented students to successfully transition from high school to college.
:: Mrs. Linda W. Demoise Linda W. Demoise is the Academic Support Coordinator, Tutoring Coordinator for the INVESTNG NOW program. Her responsibilities include the day-to-day management of the after school tutoring program, hiring and supervising undergraduate engineering, math and science tutors, scheduling weekly tutoring sessions for students, and coordinating the Saturday Hands-On Science programs.
Mrs. Demoise is a former employee of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers where she was a hydraulic engineer for the Pittsburgh District. Mrs. Demoise has spent years as a volunteer tutor for area high school math and science students. Mrs. Demoise holds a BS and MS in Civil Engineering from Penn State.
Ms. Alyse Alexander
Alyse Alexander is the Program Coordinator for the INVESTING
NOW program. Her duties include implementing school year workshops and
activities, advising students on academic issues and college planning, tracking
academic progress, and assisting with recruitment.
Ms. Alexander has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Spelman
College and is currently pursuing a Master of Education degree in School
Counseling at Duquesne University. Ms. Alexander has a background in education
and has spent several years teaching the Writing class during the summer sessions for the
