:: Dr. Alaine M. Allen
Allen is the director of Educational Outreach and Community Engagement in the
University of Pittsburgh, Swanson School of Engineering and a co-director of the
Broadening Equity in STEM Center at the University of Pittsburgh, a center
charged with creating a national network for STEM precollege programs and a
local network of undergraduate STEM programs designed to broaden participation.
For over twenty-five years Alaine has worked as an educator who opens doors for
students, particularly individuals from groups historically marginalized in
science, technology, engineering and mathematics. She is committed to
fostering a culture of inclusive excellence in STEM and to cultivating
environments where students, staff and faculty can thrive. Alaine has a
Bachelor of Science degree in physics education from Lincoln University of
Pennsylvania, a Master of Education degree in policy, planning and evaluation
from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Doctor of Education degree in higher
education management from the University of Pittsburgh.
:: Mrs. Linda W. Demoise Linda W. Demoise is the Academic Support Coordinator, Tutoring Coordinator for the INVESTNG NOW program. Her responsibilities include the day-to-day management of the after school tutoring program, hiring and supervising undergraduate engineering, math and science tutors, scheduling weekly tutoring sessions for students, and coordinating the Saturday Hands-On Science programs.
Mrs. Demoise is a former employee of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers where she was a hydraulic engineer for the Pittsburgh District. Mrs. Demoise has spent years as a volunteer tutor for area high school math and science students. Mrs. Demoise holds a BS and MS in Civil Engineering from Penn State.
Lisa M. Huff
M. Huff is the Office Coordinator for the INVESTING NOW program. Her
responsibilities include assisting in program coordination, financial
management, and communications on behalf of the program via email & social
Huff has recently obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Gender &
Women’s Studies concentrated in African American Studies from Washington &
Jefferson College. Throughout college, she was heavily involved with the coordination of various student organizations which provided her with valuable knowledge specializing in program planning, budgeting, and communications. Her personal experience as a first-generation college graduate has
urged Ms. Huff to pursue furthering her studies to actively assist in making
higher education accessible for underrepresented groups in academia.
Ms. Becky Miller, EdM
Becky Miller is the current Graduate Intern at INVESTING
NOW. She has been with the program since the summer of 2019. Currently she is
responsible for managing the quarterly advising appointments as well as,
advising all our juniors in the program.
Ms. Miller is a first-generation college student originally
from the East coast where she received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and
Human Services. She has worked in Higher Education for five years and
obtained her Masters in Educational Leadership and Policy before returning to
school full-time to pursue her Masters in Social Work. Ms. Miller hopes
to combine her passions and experience one day to continue working with
adolescents and young adults.
