Why you chose Pitt:
I chose Pitt for its variety of engineering majors, its beautiful location, and the possibility to do undergraduate research, go on co-op, and study abroad within a 4- to 5-year period. The architecture is lovely and I loved the openness that I felt on campus.
Advice to First Year Engineering Student:
My advice would be to get involved and be bold. Talk to your professors and teaching assistants. They may seem intimidating, but I can assure you that I would not have passed some of my classes without them and they really do want to help. Join a club or two. There’s no harm in trying and if it sticks, you’ll make some great friends. Also, keep an open mind. This is a new environment with new rules and a lot will be different from what home was like. Go seek out those new things, make friends with people who are not like you. They’ll offer you an insight you wouldn’t have even imagined.
