International Peer Mentoring

The Swanson School of Engineering International Peer Mentor Program is offered to all international first-year engineering students. The purpose of this program is to orient students to the University of Pittsburgh and the SSOE, and to ease their transition to life and schooling in a new country. This is achieved by offering social support, academic, and cross-cultural living advice to our international students.

The programming offered consists of large group and individual meetings, both led by an International Peer Mentor. The International Peer Mentor is an international upper-class engineering student who has completed the Freshman Engineering Program requirements, and successfully transitioned to life in the United States. These student leaders share their wealth of experience and knowledge with our incoming students through this program. The series of group and individual meetings cover a myriad of topics including Academic Integrity, Class Registration, Academics in the United States, Exploring Pittsburgh, Time Management, and Preparing for Final Exams, and are offered every semester.
