Ways to Give

Thank you for considering a gift to the Swanson School of Engineering. There are many ways alumni and friends can create an impact through philanthropy. For help finding a giving option that works best for you, take a look below.

Types of Funds
Endowed Funds

Endowed funds allow you to create a lasting legacy by establishing a named fund that provides perpetual support for students, faculty, and programs. Your gift generates ongoing income to support scholarships, fellowships, faculty chairs, instruction, and other priorities you care about. Minimum endowment levels ensure your fund produces sufficient income to honor your intentions and make a meaningful impact year after year.

Current Funds

Current funds give you the flexibility to make an immediate impact, as gifts may be distributed in the year they are received. They are an ideal option if you have funds available annually but do not wish to establish a perpetual endowment. Current funds are also well suited for annual IRA distributions or lump-sum gifts to support research projects, travel, or faculty and student awards over a designated period of time.

Scholarships & Fellowships

A scholarship or fellowship allows you to leave a lasting legacy by supporting high-achieving students who strengthen the University through their academic excellence and lifelong contributions as alumni. These funds provide critical tuition assistance and may be established as either endowed or term scholarships, depending on your goals.

Legacy Fund

A Legacy Fund is a named, unrestricted endowed fund that supports the Swanson School of Engineering or a specific department or program, such as the Office of Diversity or the Office of Engineering International Programs.

What does a Legacy Fund support?

You may designate your fund for use by the Dean for school-wide priorities or for a specific department or program. Because Legacy Funds are unrestricted, they provide the flexibility to address the School’s most immediate needs—such as student travel to conferences, equipment purchases, graduate and undergraduate research, guest speakers, and outreach initiatives. Pooled with other discretionary funds, your gift has an outsized and timely impact.

Annual Fund

Make an immediate difference at the Swanson School of Engineering with a gift to the Annual Fund. Your support helps advance the School’s highest priorities and provides critical funding where it is needed most.

You may give by credit card, check, or appreciated securities. Gifts of appreciated stock may offer tax advantages by avoiding capital gains tax and can be used for one-time gifts or to fulfill a pledge.
