The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of Pittsburgh is committed to advancing engineering education, community partnerships, and broadening participation in STEM fields. Our outreach initiatives strengthen connections between the University, PK–12 learners, educators, and community partners by providing accessible, high-impact educational experiences.
According to the University’s definition, outreach activities are intentional, faculty-driven engagements that translate Pitt’s research, expertise, and educational mission into meaningful, accessible learning opportunities for PK–12 students, educators, families, and the broader community.
Through hands-on programs, school collaborations, educator support, and large-scale STEM events, Pitt ECE faculty deliver high-impact experiences that inspire future engineers and strengthen regional STEM ecosystems.
Outreach efforts typically involve faculty, staff, or students contributing their expertise to support:
- PK–12 education and enrichment
- Public understanding of STEM disciplines
- Regional and community partnerships
- Educational equity and access
- Applied demonstrations, workshops, or public talks
