Pennsylvania is ranked among the top ten states with the largest employment of bioengineers nationwide. Annual mean wages for the profession range from approximately $95K to $100K. 98% of our graduates are employed within 3 months of graduation, and 75% of our MS-MPE graduates enter industry.
The start-ups that employ them are typically those in the Pittsburgh region in which Pitt BioE has played some role in advancing, including helping spin-off the start-up, collaborate on R&D and sponsored research, and have faculty, post-docs, graduate students and undergraduates be actively engaged with these start-ups.

From breakthrough surgical tools and wearable health monitors to next-generation drug delivery systems and AI-powered diagnostics at companies like Respair, Inc. and Aneurisk, MPE alumni are helping bring early-stage innovations to market and shaping the future of healthcare.
Our graduates also attend medical school, work in government service such as at the FDA, go for additional graduate study, and are employed in other healthcare-related fields.
