Update:

Research:An innovative pediatric ventricular assist device (PVAD) is being developed to treat a patient group (2.5 kg- 15 kg) that has very few VAD options due to their size. The aim of this PhD project is determine the optimal positioning of the PVAD and cannulae to minimize associated complications with implantation. To accomplish this goal, the project proposes three specific aims: generation of 3D digital and physical models of pediatric anatomy, determination of optimal implantation geometry of the outflow cannula to the aorta through simulation and experimental validation, and the development of a means of attachment for the outflow cannula. Successful completion of these three aims will enable the PVAD team to optimize the design of the system in the early stages of development.
