Scholars@Pitt

If you missed last month's Lunch & Learn sessions for Scholars@Pitt, the newly upgraded Symplectic Elements platform, you can view the lecture here and the PowerPoint here

Scholars@Pitt will feature a new module called Discover, a public-facing portal that showcases research expertise. Because the Swanson School was an early adopter of Symplectic - which is used to populate faculty profiles on the web - Pitt Digital is promoting our use as a best practice throughout the university.

Before Discover is rolled out to the public early in 2026, we are asking all faculty to visit the stage site at https://discover.pitt.edu/. You will need to either be on the Pitt campus network or vpn remotely to view Discovery.

While you explore its resources, please take the time to review your own profile and, should you need to update anything, log in to your Symplectic account at scholars.pitt.edu for real-time edits. Also, please note in the Scholars@Pitt Lunch & Learn the explanation about “Availability” labels and “Fields of Research”:

  • Availability labels allow you to describe what kinds of opportunities you are interested in being contacted about such as Collaborative Projects, Mentoring or Media Inquiries, or Willingness to Peer Review.
  • Fields of Research is an expansive, controlled vocabulary that allows you to highlight your research areas on you profile.

Lastly, as part of the redesign of engineering.pitt.edu, MarComm will migrate current faculty profiles to the new Symplectic format.

We ask all SSoE faculty to please review your Scholars@Pitt profile before the end of 2025. Faculty who have not logged into Symplectic for the first time or who have not updated their profiles since the beginning of 2025 will be emailed with reminders.

We look forward to finally launching Discovery in January!

Sincerely,
Pitt Digital
