Welcome to the Investing Now Program
Investing Now, created in 1988, is a college preparatory program created to stimulate, support, and recognize the high academic performance of pre-college students from groups that are historically underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics majors and careers.
The purpose of the program is to ensure that participants are well prepared for matriculation at the University of Pittsburgh or other selective higher education institutions.
The primary goals are to:
- Create a pathway for well-prepared students to enter college and pursue science, technology, engineering, art and math majors
- Encourage and support students’ enrollment and achievement in advanced mathematics and science courses
- Ensure that the participants make informed college choices
- Coordinate partnerships between the University of Pittsburgh and local schools.

Impact
The Class of 2018 was the 25th student cohort to participate in Investing Now from ninth through twelfth grade.

Investing Now recruitment takes place primarily in the spring term of each academic year, but students are welcome to apply all year and be admitted to the program if space is available.
Program Criteria
In order to be considered for participation, students must have:
- An academic GPA of 2.5 or better, and
- An interest in STEAM
How to Apply
- Students must complete an application and submit a recommendation form
- Students can access the online application OR fill out the paper application and email it to agj16@pitt.edu
- Upon receiving completed applications, our team will schedule a follow-up interview with eligible candidates. Final notification of acceptance will be communicated by University Educational Outreach Center staff.

Membership in Investing Now involves a student commitment to attend year-round programming from ninth through twelfth grade.
Programming focuses on six areas:
- Student Support — Academic Advising, Tutoring, and Workshops on Academic Success
- Academic Enrichment — Summer Enrichment Sessions & Hands-on STEAM Programs
- College Planning — College Pre & Financial Aid Workshops and PSAT/SAT Prep
- Career Awareness — Seminars, Summer Research Experiences, and Shadowing
- Family/Parent Involvement — College Planning and Financial Aid Workshops, Transition to High School Program, and Volunteers and Facilitators
- Cultural Awareness — Classes, Events, and Seminars

Summer 2024 Details!
Investing Now is relaunching this summer for a two-week hands-on STEAM experience for rising 9th, 10th, and 11th graders!
Join us for two weeks of hands-on steam programming and academic enrichment.
- Save the Dates: July 15, 2024 – July 26, 2024
- Where: University of Pittsburgh Pittsburgh — Pittsburgh Campus
- Who: Rising 9th thru 11th Graders
- What: Academic enrichment and hands-on STEAM programming
During the 2023-2024 school year, students that participate will have access to:
- Monthly on-campus experiences and hands-on STEAM activities
- Weekly tutoring
- College and career readiness workshops
- PSAT and SAT prep
- Incentives including invites to Pitt games and social events
