About

SOAR Special Projects is a team of students competing in a variety of engineering competitions. Previous teams have competed in the NASA RASC-AL Mars Ice competition, where we designed and manufactured an autonomous drill that could work on Mars to extract subterranean ice and filter it into drinking water. The team won the most innovative and lightest weight system awards at the competition that year.

This year, the team has decided to put a research proposal in for the NASA Big Idea Challenge. Teams had to design a lunar rover which cannot use wheels to navigate extreme lunar terrain. Our team’s rover utilized a grappling hook to allow it to repel into lunar lava tubes.
