Brandon Grainger Named Deputy Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Power Electronics Magazine
The University of Pittsburgh’s Brandon Grainger has been named Deputy Editor-in-Chief (Academia) of IEEE Power Electronics Magazine. Available online and in print to IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS) members worldwide, the quarterly magazine features peer-reviewed articles and industry news about power electronics and its many applications.
Grainger, an associate professor and Eaton Faculty Fellow in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Swanson School of Engineering, will step into the position this fall.
A triple alumnus of the Swanson School (BS EE '07, MS '11, PhD '14), Grainger joined IEEE as an undergraduate and has been increasingly active since. From attending conferences and presenting papers to launching the IEEE PELS Pittsburgh Chapter and serving as its chair for three years, he has taken on more leadership positions in the professional organization.

“I have a passion for being involved,” said Grainger, who also directs the Electric Power Technologies Lab and co-directs Pitt AMPED and the Energy GRID Institute. “I enjoy these opportunities to give back to my profession and the IEEE community. It has helped me build networks, which benefit my students and the University’s initiatives.”
In his new role, Grainger will collaborate with Xu She, Senior Director of Engineering at Lunar Energy, who will serve as the magazine’s Deputy Editor-in-Chief (Industry). The two will work with an advisory committee to identify themes for each issue and to vet strong feature articles that appeal to an academic and industry audience.
Although he serves as an associate editor for the open-access journal AIP Advances, assisting at the editor-in-chief level will be a new experience for Grainger. “It’s a first time for sure, but I’m honored to have this opportunity to help lead this important magazine,” he said. “It’s exciting to build this network worldwide.”
