The Summer Engineering Academy (SEA) is a residential program that enables students to make a smooth transition from high school to college. During SEA, students learn study skills essential for college and receive an intensive review of chemistry, calculus and physics concepts. By attending this program students can prepare for success during the first year of college.
What do I need to do to participate in Summer Engineering Academy?
Students admitted to the Swanson School of Engineering who are interested in participating in the Summer Engineering Academy should complete a Release Form For Financial Aid Info and return it to the office by TBD or as soon as possible. Once the form is completed indicating interest in the program, students will be notified by mail regarding their selection. For additional information, please refer to the

If I was admitted to the University of Pittsburgh’s Swanson School of Engineering, is my participation in SEA required?Your admission to the University of Pittsburgh’s Swanson School of Engineering does not require your participation in SEA. However, data shows that those students who attend bridge programs such as SEA have a smoother transition to college than those who choose not to participate. Therefore, participation is not required, but strongly recommended.
Is there any financial assistance available to cover the cost of attending SEA?Some students are eligible for financial assistance to help cover some or all of the cost of SEA. To be considered for financial assistance, it is necessary that students submit the financial aid forms required by the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid.
Is campus housing available for SEA participants? All students who attend SEA are required to stay in temporary on-campus housing and will move into their assigned residence hall rooms at the end of the program. Students will be able move into their permanently assigned room for the Fall semester at the conclusion of SEA. SEA participants who plan to commute to campus during the Fall semester will move into their permanent housing at the end of the program as well.
If I participate in SEA, which PittStart session should I attend? All incoming freshmen are required to attend one of the PittStart orientation sessions. There is no preference to when you should attend, but the earlier you attend a session the better.
1. If your child has an unusual/chronic medical problem that we should be aware of, please have your family doctor write a letter explaining the problem.
2. Health Insurance: Remember to bring your family insurance information with you - i.e. Blue Cross/Blue Shield numbers,etc. If you see a doctor at the Student Health Center and wish to bill your family insurance, you will be required to pay for the visit and submit the claim to your insurance company.
3. Student Health Service: Your Pitt Student Health Services coverage will begin on August 5, 2018 and will continue into the fall semester. You can begin to utilize their services as needed at that time. If you choose to purchase Supplemental Health Insurance, you can visit

If interest is expressed during one of the PittStart meetings, the student will be contacted by mail with instructions for registering for the program. If you've missed the initial information sessions during PittStart, you can contact the Pitt EXCEL Program at email@example.com. First year students interested in the program should fill out the Release form and Commitment form and fax to 412-624-8869.
Once the commitment and SEA Financial Release forms have been received, students will be reviewed and accepted students will receive email correspondence including the cost of the program and further instructions. All required forms are available on the

waiver to release educational records.
