Why you chose Pitt:
From the very first time I visited Pitt, I knew it was the right fit for me! Pitt offered a challenging and well-established engineering program that emphasized collaboration and provided students with endless resources. The selling point for me, however, was being able to enter as an undecided engineering major and choose my discipline during my second semester. As a senior in high school, I was not sure what type of engineering I wanted to pursue, and frankly what engineering was in general. The first year engineering program exposed me to all the different types of engineering and helped me realize I wanted to pursue Industrial Engineering. Aside from academics, Pitt has amazing school spirit and a campus that is very welcoming and full of endless opportunity! H2P!
Advice to First Year Engineering Student:
Many students coming into the engineering program here at Pitt are used to performing very well in school and being top of their class. Freshman year, however, is a challenging transition and it is easy for those same students to be discouraged when their grades are not the same as in high school. I, myself, struggle during freshman year and questioned if I was cut out for engineering. Now, I couldn’t see myself pursuing anything else. Remember that it is okay to struggle during your freshman year, everyone will, and you will come out of your freshman year a stronger student and engineer.
Extracurricular involvement and or Future Goals:
Aside from being an Engineering Ambassador, I am involved in the National Association of Business and Engineering (NOBE), Society of Women Engineers (SWE), and the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE). This semester I am looking to become more involved in FEM (Female Empowerment Movement) and the Hip-Hop Dance Crew. Currently, I work part-time with United Airlines, an extension of my internship this past summer. For the future, I look forward to continuing working for United Airlines and hopefully studying abroad in Scandinavia this summer!
