:: Dr. Alaine M. Allen Alaine M. Allen is the Director of the Pre-College and Undergraduate Diversity Programs, which includes both INVESTING NOW and Pitt EXCEL. Her responsibilities include oversight of both programs, developing relationships with professionals from the local educational and non-profit communities, maintaining relationships with administrators, faculty and other departments within the University of Pittsburgh, managing summer enrichment sessions, and interacting with student organizations within the Swanson School of Engineering. Ms. Allen has worked at the University since 1994. She was formerly the assistant director of the INVESTING NOW program, a physics teacher for the Woodland Hills School District, and a graduate research assistant for QUASAR - a math education reform project at the University of Pittsburgh Learning Research and Development Center.
Ms. Allen has a Bachelor of Science degree in physics/secondary education from Lincoln University and a Master of Education degree in policy, planning, and evaluation from the University of Pittsburgh. She has also completed graduate work in the Higher Education Management Program of the University of Pittsburgh School of Education. Her research interest involves identifying the factors that enable ethnically underrepresented students to successfully transition from high school to college.
:: Mrs. Linda W. Demoise Linda W. Demoise is the Academic Support Coordinator for the INVESTNG NOW program and the Tutoring Coordinator for the Pitt EXCEL Program. Her responsibilities include the day-to-day management of the after school tutoring program, hiring and supervising undergraduate engineering, math and science tutors, scheduling weekly tutoring sessions for students, and coordinating the Saturday Hands-On Science program.
Mrs. Demoise is a former employee of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers where she was a hydraulic engineer for the Pittsburgh District. Mrs. Demoise has spent years as a volunteer tutor for area high school math and science students. Mrs. Demoise holds a BS and MS in Civil Engineering from Penn State.
: Jay Oriola
Emiola Jay Oriola is the Associate Director for the INVESTING NOW program. His duties will include managing the day-to-day
operations of the program, advising students,
tracking the academic progress of students and preparing them for the high
school to college transition; supervising and working with staff to coordinate
and implement school year and summer workshops and seminars; planning and
managing the summer enrichment session. He will also be responsible for
maintaining contact with program participants, parents, school district
personnel, community organizations and appropriate University faculty and
Mr. Oriola is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a BS degree in psychology and a minor in sociology. He has a passion for youth, their development, progression and overall success in and out of the classroom.
:: Heather Mordecki
Mrs. Mordecki is the Office Coordinator for the INVESTING NOW as well as the Pitt EXCEL programs. Her responsibilities include the day-to-day management of the office and the program activities. She also works with Mrs. Demoise in the hiring and supervising of the undergraduate students for the after school tutoring programs.
Mrs. Patience Stanicar is the Program Coordinator for the
INVESTING NOW program. Her duties include coordinating and implementing school
year workshops and seminars; working with team to coordinate a 5-week summer
enrichment program; assisting with recruitment and selection of applicants;
advising students on academic issues and college planning.
Mrs. Stanicar is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh
with a degree in History and Philosophy of Science. She also received a minor
in Biology and her PA Certification in Instructional Learning from Carlow
University. Mrs. Stanicar spent time as an educator from the Carnegie Museum of
Natural History and as a STEM teacher from the Carnegie Science Center and the
