Alaine M. Allen is the Director of the University of Pittsburgh Pre-College, INVESTING NOW and Undergraduate, Pitt EXCEL programs. Her responsibilities include oversight of both programs, developing relationships with professionals from the local educational and non-profit communities, maintaining relationships with administrators, faculty and other departments within the University of Pittsburgh, managing summer enrichment sessions, and interacting with student organizations within the Swanson School of Engineering. Ms. Allen has worked at the University since 1994. She was formerly the assistant director of the INVESTING NOW program, a physics teacher for the Woodland Hills School District, and a graduate research assistant for QUASAR - a math education reform project at the University of Pittsburgh Learning Research and Development Center. Ms. Allen has a Bachelor of Science degree in physics/secondary education from Lincoln University and a Master of Education degree in policy, planning, and evaluation from the University of Pittsburgh. She has also completed graduate work in the Higher Education Management Program of the University of Pittsburgh School of Education. Her research interest involves identifying the factors that enable ethnically underrepresented students to successfully transition from high school to college.
Yvette R. Moore is the Associate Director for the Pitt EXCEL Program. Her responsibilities include academic counseling and coordinating peer mentoring initiatives. She also coordinates various programs that promote academic success for students in the Swanson School of Engineering. Prior to arriving at the University of Pittsburgh, Ms. Moore was employed at Shippensburg University where she worked in the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs. Ms. Moore holds a Bachelor of Secondary Education in History with a minor in Anthropology from Shippensburg University, and a Master of Science in Gerontology also from Shippensburg University. Ms. Moore is committed to working with students in order to help them achieve their highest potential.
Simeon M. Saunders is an Academic Counselor and Retention Coordinator for the Pitt EXCEL Program. His responsibilities include academic counseling and tracking underrepresented engineering student’s academic progress throughout their collegiate tenure. Prior to joining Pitt EXCEL, Mr. Saunders worked in the Department of Residence Life as a Resident Director at the University of Pittsburgh. Mr. Saunders holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh and has conducted graduate work at Syracuse University in African American Studies. He is currently working toward his doctorate degree in Higher Education Management in the School of Education at the University of Pittsburgh. Mr. Saunders has a passion and earnest commitment to aiding in the academic success and personal growth and development of college students from all backgrounds.
Heather Mordecki is the Office Coordinator for the Pitt EXCEL Program, which she also serves for the INVESTING NOW Program. Her responsibilities include coordinating all of the programs activities, and helping with the hiring of the student workers and tutors.
