  • Over 250 participating companies across the country
  • About half of the engineering graduates participate in co-op
  • 95-97 percent graduate job placement over the past three years.

  • An annual survey by the magazine Diverse: Issues in Higher Education ranked the University of Pittsburgh 25th out of 100 institutions conferring the most engineering undergraduate degrees to minority students. Data was based upon the magazine's analysis of U.S. Department of Education reports and data from the 2011-12 academic year. According to the survey, African Americans represented six percent of the total number of engineering undergraduate degree recipients, a 59 percent increase over the previous academic year. The total number of African American degree recipients at the Swanson School in 2011-2012 was 27, of a total degree cohort of 466.
  • In 2011, the Swanson School was the top-ranked U.S. school in the percentage of doctoral degrees awarded to women in engineering, according to a ranking based on 2010-11 data from the American Society for Engineering Education.

  • Research funding in the Swanson School has increased significantly with Research Expenditures were more than $41 million in Fiscal Year 2013 internally with $46 million in interdisciplinary expenditures, for a total of $87 million.
  • In Fiscal Year 2013 the faculty held 503 awards.

Through the generous support of alumni, friends, corporations, and foundations, the Swanson School of Engineering realized $26,669,896 in total support for the 2013 fiscal year.

 

As of 2014, the number of living alumni of the Swanson School of Engineering (all disciplines) is 24,937.

  • The University of Pittsburgh is a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU), the by-invitation-only association of the top 60 or so research universities in North America.
  • The Swanson School of Engineering is home to eight prestigious national scholarship winners in the past six years. This includes a Rhodes scholar, the only undergraduate engineering student named to this honor that year; six Goldwater scholars in a row; and a Truman scholarship, earned by an African American student, an underrepresented ethnic group in engineering.
  • The University of Pittsburgh is ranked 13 by the Peace Corps for number of student volunteers.
