Annual Events

The Swanson School holds three long-standing annual alumni events in the Pittsburgh area: Homecoming, the Distinguished Alumni Banquet, and the Alumni Golf Outing. Each event offers an opportunity for alumni to reconnect with their alma mater, classmates, faculty members, and students.

As part of Pitt’s Homecoming weekend festivities, the Swanson School holds a large reception for all of its alumni on the Friday night before the big game. This event is free and includes food, drinks, entertainment, and an ideal spot to watch the fireworks on the lawn of Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum.

The 2017 Homecoming reception was held on Friday, October 13th.   To see pictures of the event, click here

Distinguished Alumni Banquet

The Distinguished Alumni Award is the highest honor an alum of the Swanson School can receive. The award is presented annually and celebrates alumni who have made a positive contribution within their respective fields across the School's six departments. In addition, one individual who was previously selected as a department awardee is recognized as the overall Swanson School awardee. See our past Distinguished Alumni Awardees here.

The 2018 Distinguished Alumni Banquet will be on Thursday, March 22nd. Contact ENGRalum@pitt.edu for more details. Click here to register for the event.

Alumni Golf Outing

Swanson School of Engineering alumni join Dean Jerry Holder at a local golf course every summer for a day on the links. All proceeds directly support the Swanson School General Scholarship Fund.

The 2017 outing was on Monday, August 21st at the Club at Nevillewood. Contact ENGRalum@pitt.edu for more details. Click Here to see pictures.

Event Sponsorship

We are tremendously grateful for all of our corporate and individual sponsors over the years. Sponsorship for the Distinguished Alumni Banquet or the Annual Alumni Golf Outing is an excellent opportunity to showcase your company’s name and expertise among peers in industry and academia. Sponsorship proceeds directly support the Swanson School General Scholarship Fund. There are many levels of sponsorship that fit the needs and mission of your company. For more information, please contact 412-624-6818 or ENGRalum@pitt.edu.

There are many ways for alumni to become involved in the Swanson School of Engineering:

Throughout the year, the Swanson School hosts alumni dinners, seminars, speaker series, and more. If you are interested in becoming involved with any of opportunities, please email ENGRalum@pitt.edu or call 412-624-6818.

Students often times need mentors to advise them and provide encouragement in their academic and professional pursuits. If you are an alum who would like to volunteer your time to advise students, please email ENGRalum@pitt.edu or call 412-624-6818.

Employment & Cooperative Education (Co-op) Opportunities

Our employer partners make certain that the students receive appropriate and challenging work. Our hope is that by the time the student is on the third alternating rotation, he or she is already acting as an entry level engineer. The Swanson School’s co-op program is free and a tremendous opportunity for our employers to evaluate students over a long period of time. Additionally, it is a cost-effective means of hiring new talent into the organization. For more information contact Maureen Barcic, Director of Co-op, Cooperative Engineering at paub2m@pitt.edu or 412-624-9882.

Visit Campus

We welcome donors and alumni back to campus in various capacities, including providing tours of recently renovated Benedum Hall and setting up meetings with students and faculty. Contact ENGRalum@pitt.edu if you are interested in traveling back to campus.
