Pitt | Swanson Engineering

Major: Bioengineering, Minor: Chemical Engineering

High School: Notre Dame High School

Why you chose Pitt:

My family and I actually missed the tour of the engineering school we had planned to take, and showed up to Swanson very flustered thinking we’d never get another tour. However, a current student working at the front desk offered to give us a tour the next morning (on her day off no less!). The administration even offered my parents and I extra tickets to the Pirates game that Swanson had purchased for the freshmen engineering class. Knowing Pitt can be that type of warm and receptive environment while still being very academically cutting edge made it the perfect fit.

Advice to First Year Engineering Student:

The best advice about college I ever received was to treat it like a 9 to 5 job. Put in the work and do everything you can and need to do in those 8 hours each day- class, studying, office hours, practice problems, etc. But, give yourself the rest of your days to get involved, hangout with friends, explore the city or just relax with some tea and Netflix. Your grades are important and you’ll need to work for them (probably more than you ever worked in high school), but you can’t thrive if you aren’t also living your life!

Extracurricular involvement and or Future Goals:

Besides being an engineering Ambassador I also participate in the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) mentorship program, and the Pitt Women’s Leadership Experience (PWLE) retreat and mentorship program. Currently I am in the pledging process for a professional fraternity. I was fortunate enough to have already participated in the Plus Three Vietnam international experience, and I’m hoping to study abroad or do research abroad this upcoming summer!
