The Center for Medical Innovation (CMI) is proud to announce that John Maier, MD, PhD, has joined as the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) representative.

Dr. Maier is an Assistant Professor and the Director of Research and Development in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. He completed his PhD in Physics and MD at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where his research focused on light-tissue interaction and its application to in-vivo spectroscopy. After completing the Medical Scholars Program at Illinois he went on to the UPMC Shadyside Family Medicine Residency from 1999 to 2002. From 2002 to 2011 he worked at ChemImage Corporation in Pittsburgh as the leader of Biomedical research and a member of the management team. In 2011 he returned to the University of Pittsburgh as a member of the faculty in the Department of Family Medicine where he serves on the executive committee and provides leadership and support to projects that span the range from comparative effectiveness research to health care system delivery innovation in community based settings. Dr. Maier is a co-inventor on over 50 US patents and co-author on 14 peer reviewed publications and numerous proceedings, abstracts and presentations.
